Sociedad Portuaria del Norte is located at the port city of Barranquilla with access from the Atlantic Coast of Colombia through the Magdalena River. SPN is the first multipurpose privately owned terminal in Barranquilla.
It was originally developed as an oil terminal for the ESSO company in Colombia 1950. In 2002 Sociedad Portuaria del Norte was created originally as a coal terminal, and later becoming more as a multipurpose terminal for dry bulk cargo, steel, fertilizers, cement, vehicles, paper, and other Colombian foreign trade commodities.
Access roads to SPN have been improved and prepared to handle heavy traffic, making it safe for the community as well as for cargo shipments traffic.
